Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception entry “Psalm (Genre): IV Islam”

My contribution to the article on the genre of psalms surveys very briefly the kinds of “psalms” that Muslims have written, including divine exhortations spoken by God to the prophet David as well as human prayers, praises, laments, admonitions, and works of modern poetry. It has now been published in the online edition of De Gruyter’s monumental Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception:

It is part of a larger article covering the genre of psalm in the Ancient Near East and Jewish and Christian Scriptures, in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and in Literature and Music.
